Bohemian-Inspired Cloth Cuff Bracelet: Tutorial and Free Template

Creating textile jewelry is a great way to experiment with different fabrics, stitches, and mixed-media techniques…it’s also a great way to use up scraps! If you’ve got a large mix of leftover fabric, lace, or jewelry pieces, you’ve got the perfect palette for making cloth bracelets.

You can download my free, printable pdf template below. I included two widths and various wrist sizes, but if you don’t find your perfect fit, you can adjust even further:

Instructions

  1. Print and cut out the pattern above, or create your own pattern.
  2. Cut out the base of the cuff from any woven/non-stretch fabric. (You won’t end up seeing this part, so the color doesn’t matter too much.)
  3. Choose some fabrics you like together from your collection of scraps, and pin and baste them to your base fabric.
  4. Embellish as desired with various embroidery stitches, beads, baubles, bits of lace, etc…
  5. Cut out your lining to match the size and shape of your embellished fabric, and also cut out strips for binding the edges; these should be about 1.5″ wide. With the wrong sides of your embellished fabric and lining pinned together, line the binding strips up with the edge of the cuff, and stitch to the back.
  6. Clip and trim your corners, then fold your binding around to the front and hand stitch down.
  7. Attach either jewelry clasps and chain for your closure, or you can use buttons and loops.

To see exactly how I do this, be sure to check out the video above. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to try different things! You don’t have to do it exactly like I did; in fact, you may find better ways of sewing your wrist cuff. If you create something with the help of this tutorial, I would love to see your finished work. You can tag me on instagram or on twitter @moth_and_rust, or send me a DM.
