A few faves: Brooklyn Tweed Yarns (Quarry, Peerie, Arbor, and Shelter)

If know me at all, I don’t have to tell you how much I love goods that are made: 1.) locally–or just within the US, 2.) sustainably, and 3.) from natural fibers. So it’s no wonder Brooklyn Tweed is one of my absolute favorite yarn companies; they beautifully embody these values, so I wanted to share a few of my favorite yarns from them! I hope to do more yarn reviews in the future…there are so many I love! But I thought today we’d start off with some classics. If you’ve got a project you’re ready to start but are waiting for the perfect yarn, hopefully this will help.

Find the pattern for these Farm Girl Fingerless Mitts, using Brooklyn Tweed’s Shelter, here.

Peerie / 100% American-grown Merino wool
Peerie is a fingering weight yarn with gorgeous stitch definition (a common theme in BT yarns!) Like most of their yarns, it’s available in a wide range of rich colors, making it ideal for colorwork.

Shelter / 100% American Targhee-Columbia wool
Shelter is such a classic, staple yarn–possibly one of my favorites. It’s a a woolen-spun, worsted weight yarn, which means it has a lot of rustic texture, but is incredibly light, warm, and squishy. It’s such a “comfort yarn” to me, and lends itself perfectly to sweaters, accessories, and pretty much anything you want to make cozy. I created my Farm Girl Fingerless Mitts using Shelter (you can find the free pattern for them here!)

Arbor / 100% American Targhee wool
Arbor is a classic DK weight. For some reason, I don’t use DK weight often, but I love this stuff. Like the other BT yarns I love, this is so squishy and cozy…

Quarry / 100% American Targhee-Columbia wool
Quarry is so fabulously fluffy! It is chunky yet still light, and while it’s made from several strands spun together, it’s done so in a way that gives it the look of a single ply, so it has more strength than pencil roving. Right now I have some that I’m planning to make a neckwarmer/scarflette from, but I think it would be so wonderful as something like a coat or blanket.
