Beyond the Quilt: Patchwork in Fashion

If you know me, it’s no secret that I love patchwork, and not just in quilts…in fact, there was a time when I was exclusively making patchwork clothing. My style has changed a bit since then, but I am so happy to see what seems to be a surge in patchwork fashion–(it’s especially cool to see old quilts actually being repurposed into garments.) But even if you aren’t repurposing an existing quilt, patchwork is a great way to use every scrap you have! I wanted to share a couple pieces today…

This first one is from Anemone, who I mentioned in my most recent podcast episode. Based in Vermont, Anemone is one of those who transforms actual quilts into wearable art. You can find more exquisite work like this on their instagram feed @anemone.vt

Also on the podcast, I talked about Thread and Butter Vintage. Lisa, the creator behind Thread and Butter, also takes old quilts and uses them in new ways. I absolutely love her sweatshirts, but she creates other incredible pieces too, like bags and coveralls!

And yes, I’ve even been working again on some pieces of my own! These are not upcycled from quilts, but they are created with scraps leftover from other projects, so they’re still eco-friendly! If you’re not ready to wear a quilt yet, I think patchwork accessories are a great way to ease into it… you can find each of these bags in the Moth and Rust Handmade Etsy shop.
