DIY Gifting: Earth-friendly Ideas for Wrapping Gifts

The holidays should be a time of celebration, not an excuse for waste! Are you looking for some creative ways to wrap your gifts? Then check out this DIY inspiration video! There are many things you probably already have around the house that can be used to create elegant, earth-friendly wrapping.

Items used in the video include:

  • Paper bags
  • Antique/vintage book pages
  • Magazine pages
  • Fresh pine/greenery
  • Cotton String
  • Decorative Markers

Using cloth is another sustainable alternative. For example, if you have something like a shawl, scarf, or napkin that you’d like to gift to the recipient, use it to wrap another gift you’re giving to them!

Again, items like greenery and curled magazine trimmings make great embellishments. You could also use things like twigs or cotton bolls, tufts of wool, or any pretty & small item the recipient would use.

I especially love the idea of creating a pocket for small items (like the sewn pages in the video) to fold over and then tie. You could really go all out on decorating these…and the junk journalist or scrapbooker in your life will love it!

With some creativity, there are so many possibilities for wrapping that doesn’t generate a lot of waste. What are some of your favorite gift wrap techniques?
