Julie Devore | Artist Spotlight

In this final installment of this year’s Artist Spotlight series, I’m delighted to introduce you to Julie Devore, who creates bold and joyous jewelry from polymer clay and resin. I knew I had to share her work as soon as I saw it. In addition to her main jewelry line which heavily features earrings, this Wichita creator has a children’s line called Frankie and Harriett. Read on to learn more!

M&R: How did you become interested in jewelry making?
Julie: I saw some clay earrings on social media and loved them! They were made in New Zealand. I didn’t want to pay for shipping and wait a month for them to arrive, so started making my own.

What are the most rewarding parts of your craft?
The most rewarding part of my craft would have to be seeing people wear them! It makes me happy to see others liking what I make.

Are there any challenges, either in the creative or business aspect?
Some challenges with making clay earrings is that it is very common now. You see them everywhere. Sometimes getting supplies is tough and you have to find new vendors who have the supplies you need in stock.

What inspires and influences your work?
I get inspiration from a lot of things. From colors of the sky to the shapes and details of buildings. Everywhere you look you can find new ideas!

How do you hope your work will influence others?
I hope my work influences others by letting them get creative and taking chances on an idea they may have. My hobby turned into a business and it feels good to have my girls see me work with my hands and be creative! ❤️
